Beaches

Turquoise coves, sun-kissed sands and azure skies – Ibiza’s iconic beaches come into their own in the warm season. Top summer spots include Cala Mastella, one of the island’s smallest bays and a favorite with islanders. Surrounded by cliffs, this sheltered inlet has a relaxed bohemian vibe, with a pebbly seabed and calm waters that are a snorkeling paradise.

Other under-the-radar coastal picks include Es Calonet, a tiny cove with turquoise waters surrounded by fishing huts. Set in the island’s south-west, this peaceful bay is a favorite with local families, who gather to enjoy meals on the embarcaderos.

Islanders also love Punta Galera, a spectacular site with large flat stone formations jutting out from the cliffs that are perfect for sunbathing. Dive off the stones into sparkling waters and take a snorkel to explore the surrounding rock pools.

Further north, don’t miss S’Illot des Rencli, with its ruggedly beautiful coves and unusual eroded rock structures, and the neighboring Cala Xarraca, a picturesque beach with azure waters and a sandy shoreline. Arrive early in the day for a tranquil dip without the crowds.

Just along the coast is Cala Saladeta, a dreamy haven that’s a short climb across from its larger twin cove, Cala Salada. Framed by rocky headlands, the calm, transparent waters of this naturally protected bay feel like a sea-pool.

For pure secluded bliss, try Ses Balandres, a hidden bay on the northern coast with beautiful views of Ses Margalides islets. Not for the faint-hearted, it’s reached via a rocky clamber down the cliffside, complete with wooden steps, handrails and ropes – or take the gentler route and arrive by sailboat.

If you’re feeling adventurous, head to Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort – better-known by islanders as Atlantis, a former coastal quarry that provided stone for the walls of Ibiza’s historic Old Town, Dalt Vila. With asymmetrical walls left by cuts in the rock and angular seawater pools, it has a sculptural, otherworldly quality. Reach it by sailboat, or scramble down the steep path – it’s worth the trek back up. Round it off with a visit to Torre des Savinar, an 18th-century watchtower set on the cliffside above, where you can enjoy a magical sunset overlooking the neighboring island of Es Vedrá, a site steeped in local myths and legends.

Restaurants

From five-star fine dining to relaxed bites, Ibiza’s gastronomy covers all tastes. Standout summer venues include Experimental Beach Ibiza, an ultra-chic beach club and restaurant by the Las Salinas salt reserve from the renowned Experimental Group. From laid-back lunches to sunsets and beyond, this dreamy spot offers Balearic-inspired cuisine, exquisite cocktails and a vibrant ambience with live DJs.

Relaxed luxury is also in plentiful supply at the beach restaurant Jondal. Here, the extraordinary skill of chef Rafael Zafra – formerly head chef of Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli – and a picturesque setting draw island insiders and A-listers alike.

Inland, Ibiza’s farm-to-table scene is gathering pace, with stellar venues that offer a fresh take on sustainable gastronomy. In the former fishermen’s quarter of Dalt Vila, don’t miss Ibiza Food Studio’s Taller Sa Penya. Created by Noma alumnus Boris Buono, its ‘glocal’ cuisine combines Scandinavian and Mediterranean influences for an inventive take on Ibiza’s local produce. Look out also for the same group’s new venture, Bistro Mondo, set in the stylishly renovated Gare du Nord hotel in San Juan. Taking inspiration from the world’s bistro cuisines, its colorful menu centers on natural plant-based dishes and locally caught fish, with a focus on sustainably grown and organic ingredients.

Also pioneering a sustainable vision is Juntos House, in the rural village of San Mateo. Set in an ancient finca, this beautiful restaurant is part of a far-reaching regenerative project that comprises 70 hectares of farmland, top-quality food products and an artisanal boutique. Delicious dishes are crafted with products from its own land and other local suppliers, for farm-to-fork dining with a contemporary twist.

Close by in San Lorenzo, head to restaurant and natural wine bar Casa Lhasa. This pretty spot has gained a name among islanders for its colorful seasonal menu, using ingredients sourced from nearby farms, and an impressive array of organic and low-intervention wines.

For Michelin-starred style, don’t miss La Gaia in the Ibiza Gran Hotel. Here chef Óscar Molina’s haute cuisine offers an artistic interpretation of Ibiza’s local produce, in a gastronomic journey inspired by the five senses and crafted with Molina’s signature flair. In Santa Eulalia, the cosy Es Terral restaurant has also garnered a Michelin Bib Gourmand for flavorful international dishes that pay homage to its chef’s French roots.

On the island’s northern tip, visit The Beach Caves at Six Senses Ibiza, a hip dining, music and entertainment venue showcasing some of the island’s top creative talent. Its stylish restaurant combines carefully sourced Ibiza produce with Latin American-inspired flavors. There’s also a 20-seater Bar Secreto, while occasional live music performances and DJ sets make for spirited energy late into the evening. Look out also for the hotel’s newly opened North by Eyal Shani, combining Shani’s acclaimed take on modern Israeli cuisine with the island’s hyper-seasonal ingredients.

What brought you to Ibiza?

I used to run a high-end fashion retail store in Holland, and then I had some health issues. My doctor told me I had to change my life. I’d never wanted to go to Ibiza, but my partner at the time convinced me to come, and I fell in love with the island. We started running an event for Atzaro Beach, and I’ve been here ever since. It’s true that when you come here, the island either embraces you or kicks you out.

Why is the island special to you?

I love the energy that this island has. It never bores me. Although Ibiza is changing, I still feel there’s something really free and creative here, if you know where to find it. I also love being in nature here. I have my own garden, and grow everything I can – mangos, papayas, lemons, mandarins. I love the scents of the island, like wild thyme, rosemary, pink pepper, and fig leaves crushed in my hands. I grew up in a city, but now I could never return. I hope that with so many visitors now coming to Ibiza, these people are more environmentally aware and together we can create an island that is more sustainable.

Where are your favorite places in Ibiza?

It depends on the season. In the winter, I really enjoy Cala Conta and Cala Saladeta. In summer, my favorite beaches are smaller places like Cala Codolar – even in high season, you can go there and there aren’t too many people. And I love the mountains too. For eating out, I like Ses Boques, and Laylah restaurant is also beautiful – it has a city vibe, and you see people dressing up without showing off. In Santa Gertrudis, I love Overall; what they’re doing is really creative. We recently did a collaboration there called Olfatorium, pairing fragrance with a tasting menu and cocktails inspired by the scents. Food and fragrance are so connected, and I love creating experiences for people to discover something new.

Why did you choose to feature Beauty Disrupted at Papaduk?

I believe ecological beauty products are the future, so Beauty Disrupted is a perfect fit. At first though, I wasn’t sure how well the solid bar products would work. But my partner Alexis – who has long hair and is extremely picky – tried the bars and loved them, especially the conditioner. So I was impressed, and when I tried them I loved that they give such a rich lather and have a beautiful texture. And of course, I always notice fragrance. We both love the Amazonian Amour scent – the notes in it remind me of getting a hammam, and I find it really luxurious.

What is your connection to Ibiza?

I’ve been coming here since I was 10 years old. My father used to have a sailing boat that he kept in Mallorca, and my parents now both have houses on the island. I spent time here every year throughout the summers. I love Ibiza – we’ve had so many experiences here as a family. This April, my boyfriend and I moved here full-time with our young daughter.

Why is Ibiza special to you?

For so many reasons. It’s an island where everyone knows each other, everyone’s interconnected and there’s a real feeling of community. I also love that if I go to a party or event, there will be people of every age, and it’s so family-oriented. It’s beautiful to be surrounded by nature here too. The scent while you’re walking through the pine forests is amazing. Being in this landscape helps me to be present and to create space in my mind. I feel relaxed and peaceful in Ibiza, as it’s a simpler rhythm of life.

Where are your favorite places on the island?

I love Cala Mastella, which is an enclosed bay with beautiful water. There’s a great chiringuito there, which is a true locals’ spot. They don’t give you a menu, they just tell you what’s available that day. The food is exquisite as everything is so fresh. If I have friends visiting, I always take them to the chiringuito at Pou des Lleo their mojitos are the best on the island. I also love teaching on the rocks at Punta Galera early in the morning, when no-one is around, and the water is so still and clear.

Where are your top sunset spots in Ibiza?

We often go to Portinatx – we like Los Enamorados for dinner and sunset drinks. We also like to rent paddle boards and explore the little hidden bays around the coastline there. Sitting on the rocks at Cala Escondida to watch sundown is wonderful too. The other day, we rented a little boat around Benirrás for sunset. There was no one in the bay, just us and the sea and the beautiful landscape. That’s a very special Ibiza experience.

How did you come to live in Ibiza?

I first visited in my late 20s. My husband and I have been coming to Ibiza for the past 10 years, and we got married here. In 2019, after my son was born, we moved over from London. I’d been working in art and fashion and had my own sustainable luxury swimwear label. It was incredible but also very demanding, and I wanted a change. In Ibiza I felt this freedom that I couldn’t feel anywhere else. I’ve always had this expansive feeling in my heart here – a sense of coming home.

What captivates you about the island?

What holds me here is Ibiza itself. Not the fun parts, the shiny things – that’s nice, but it’s not really why I’m here. Going into nature and meditating in special places on the island gives me balance. I’ve also found a path of conscious creativity here – a space of transformation, wellness and wholeness. Ibiza is a place where I’m able to connect with that side of myself. It’s not a given to be here though, it’s not always easy. It’s a choice.

How does Ibiza inspire you?

You can dive into so many worlds within Ibiza. It’s tiny but so huge in other ways, there are so many possibilities. That’s why I love it: it’s a multidimensional space. The community that lives here is super diverse and international. What I like is that there is no class system. I feel free here – it doesn’t matter who I am, or what I have. That’s really unique. It’s also a powerful place for collaboration and co-creation. People are more relaxed and more able to be open here.

Where are your favorite places on the island?

There are some beautiful restaurants – La Paloma for lunch has a great vibe and feeling of community. For me though, the most precious thing is always being in nature. I love to hike from the port of San Miguel up to the watchtower on the cliff. The view of the sky merging with the water is breath-taking. There are so many places like that here, where you can’t believe the beauty. Sunset by Es Vedrá is another special place. Walks, incredible beaches, going on boats, finding a secret cove with nobody there – it’s a dream. The closer you are to the land, the more you feel the spirit of Ibiza.
